A Velocity Meter for Quantifying Fluid Flow Velocity Vectors in Large Water Bodies

Published in Sensors (MDPI), 2020

This paper describes the development and testing of a velocity measurement device for large water bodies such as stormwater retention ponds. The instrument was designed to support studies of flow patterns, circulation, and contaminant transport.

Technical Features:

  • Custom-designed sensor array for 3D velocity measurement
  • Robust performance in field conditions
  • Integration with CFD models for enhanced prediction
  • Application to stormwater pond design optimization

Applications: The device supports research on bacterial transport, sediment distribution, and thermal stratification in urban water bodies.
