Research Focus: Low Impact Development (LID) technologies, stormwater management modeling, climate change impacts on urban hydrology

Aditya R. - Flood Impacts on Transportation

Research Topic: Long-term impacts of flooding on transportation systems

Meichen Zhao - Urban Heat Island & Structural Soils

Research Topic: The impact of structural soils supporting urban trees on the Urban Heat Island effect

Focus Areas:

  • Climate change intensification of Urban Heat Island (UHI) effects
  • Urban forestry design as cooling strategy through shading, evaporation, and airflow regulation
  • Innovative Rainwater Tree Trenches (RTT) within structural soils
  • Integration of urban forest with city infrastructure for climate resilience
  • Practical implementation challenges of green stormwater infrastructure

Collaboration: City of Vancouver partnership for implementing innovative green stormwater infrastructure
